[ About ]

[ About ]

Our expert team has been delivering a wide range of groundwork and civil engineering services to Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, West Sussex and surrounding areas for three decades.

We have a strong focus on ensuring the highest standards of Quality and Health and Safety throughout our workforce, something we guarantee by only using staff we employ – we don’t use agency employees, and we never will.

Having our own employees also means we can receive all relevant training and instruction required to safely carry out their duties, including:

  • Site Managment Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) / Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) / Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS)
  • Confined Spaces with Rescue Breathing Apparatus
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA)
  • New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA)
  • Data Logging Cable Avoidance (C.A.T)

We’re also focused on making as little environmental impact as possible through our work, so we continually invest in our an in-house plant fleet that meets the latest emissions standards. All our equipment is regularly maintained and serviced in order to achieve maximum efficiency, whilst minimising the impact on the environment.

Rod Farncombe-Smith
Managing Director

Rod started Farncombe Construction over 30 years ago, the culmination of three decades’ industry experience having started as an apprentice and working his way up. Although he’s been in the industry for almost 60 years, his passion for it remains fresh thanks to his interest in how the industry evolves and develops new techniques to new challenges. On top of that, he’s a strong advocate of quality training and introducing fresh faces into the construction industry. When he’s not at work, Rod can be seen on the golf course or watching cricket and athletics – or indulging his love of travel.

Tim Harrison
Construction Director

Tim has been in the industry for 41 years, attending CITB Bircham Newton Training Centre, Norfolk to the first of many industry qualifications. Since then he has continued to add all manner of accreditations to his CV, along with a wide-reaching array of jobs across the industry. As well as loving the camaraderie on site, Tim enjoys overcoming the challenges presented by new construction technologies. Like Rod, he’s also passionate about the industry and the opportunities it offers young people. Outside of work, he’s a fan of Bristol City FC, has recently made the switch from playing cricket to standing as a umpire, and also enjoys a quality meal with family and friends.

Arpan Painter
Quantity Surveyor

Arpan joined us seven years ago as a trainee having tried several jobs without finding ‘the one’. We realised his ability and sponsored his training, resulting in him achieving a Masters in Quantity Surveying and Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. He loves the high level of detail required in the industry and the challenges it provides. When not at his desk, Arpan is a huge cricket fan who both plays and helps develop junior sides. And when he’s not at the crease, he’ll be enjoying a nice meal and a good single malt whiskey.

Rachel Farncombe-Smith
Procurement

Rachel was an administration for an energy efficiency company before joining the family business in 2014 – the opportunity to work in the family business which she grew up with was too exciting to pass up. When she’s not helping the company continue its exciting growth, Rachel enjoys powerlifting, cooking and getting as many weekends away as possible.

David Babb
Quality Administrator

David joined us in 2016 following a career in the pharmaceuticals industry. His working background has given him a keen interest in processes within the construction industry – something that perfectly suits his role as QA manager – and he’s augmented his wider experience by completing a nebosh in Construction (Merit) and Construction Health & Safety. A keen sportsman, David follows most sports and the social side of cricket and football at the weekends. And while Tim and Arpan are secret foodies, David just loves a takeaway!
